Came back to school today. I felt a little better, and my parents told me that if I didn't go to school then I can't go to the football game, so I took some cough medicine and went to school. I spent most of my day talking to my friends about our other classes and making an attempt to catch up. It seems like missing one day of school on an accelerated and AP schedule is like missing an entire week. I was fighting back sleep the entire class, but managed to finish the work and go to the football game, so everything worked out in my favor in the end.

Today we read an article about a school district forcing students to wear prison suits for breaking the dress code. We took a few notes about the vocabulary and wrote out some claims for both sides of the argument. Personally, I don't believe that schools should be allowed to do this. We also worked on writing our position of the argument. I learned how to properly structure the argumentative paragraph and I learned that for the sake of a test, you should side with the position of the argument that you have the most information about.

Today was a simple day for the most part. We got some vocabulary words and we had to write down the word, definition, and part of speech. We also had to do exercise 1 in the vocabulary work book.

Today was extremely stressful. I spent all of last night studying for a test that I had to take in my first block, but the schedule for today was switched so I never got to take it. More importantly, I was caught off guard and had to take my fourth block test first thing in the morning. It was a mental disaster. since we didn't take the first half of the test yesterday, we were expected to finish both parts today. I felt very rushed and I don't believe that I did my best.

Today we read and analyzed the poem Birches by Robert Frost. The poem was about finding the author's route to "get away" from Earth and come back. We spent a lot of time trying to analyze ways you can get away without harming yourself or others. We narrowed it down and figured out that the author liked to think of his careless times, or childhood, to kind of reset your mind. My favorite theme of the poem was that its never too late to start over.

Today we read the poem I too  by Langston Hughes. It was a response to the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. The purpose of this poem was to show that you should be proud to be American and that everyone has a place here. Some believe that the place you originate from is your true home, but I can be just as American as any other regardless of my background.

Today class was cut short. We read the poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes. It was about getting life advice from your mom. To me, the poem was really good because it shows that life isn't going to be easy, but you can't give up or live your life in vain.
